More about the Artists
Annick Odom, a Belgian-American musician raised in Morgantown, creates evocative compositions inspired by Appalachian folk tales and ballads, which have been hailed as “hauntingly beautiful” but Classical Post. Her solo project West Virginia, My Home combines traditional songs from the region with newly-commissioned and original compositions. Annick performs with new music collective Linen of Words and folk string band Sweet Joe Pye. Her music incorporates elements of improvisation and storytelling, often enhanced by the use of "crankies"—hand-cranked moving panoramas. Notable performances include her original compositions at the She Scores Festival in Cleveland, REWIRE Festival in The Netherlands, Third Place Festival, Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival and the International Society of Bassists Convention.
Ben Willis is an interdisciplinary musician and composer based in Chicago. He performs and composes with the art rock bands saajtak and Throwaway, and the WI-based Lovely Socialite. His solo project, subatlantic songs, for amplified double bass, was described as “unforgettable” by Cleveland Classical. He’s contributed to local music scenes in Madison, WI and Detroit, and has toured the US and Japan presenting his original music and video work. He’s created interdisciplinary work with artists as far-ranging as novelist Kathe Koja and artist Pope.L, and his performances have been featured at Cleveland's Re:Sound Festival and Detroit's Strange
Beautiful Music.
Founded in 2022 by bassoonists Dana Brink and Andy Sledge, the Bridge Bassoon Duo explores the expressive capabilities of the bassoon duo as a genre. They have performed and given masterclasses at festivals, conferences, and universities throughout the United States and internationally. As creators and commissioners, the duo places a special focus on expanding the bassoon duo repertoire written by historically marginalized composers, especially queer and transgender artists. Andy and Dana call Morgantown home, where they work with students from pre-college to graduate studies at West Virginia University
