Native plants workshop: Saturday, May 16, 2026, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at The Ferry House, Maidsville, West Virginia. Celebrate the start of a new planting season while learning about native plants. This workshop will help guide you in the selection of native shrubs and small trees to replace all those burning bushes and barberries you’ve been meaning to remove.
In addition to introducing a list of appropriate substitutions and their value to insects, birds, and other wildlife, we’ll explore terms like “straight species”, “cultivar”, “nativar”, and “hybrid”. You’ll learn how to tell when a named selection is ecologically okay and when it’s not, and will gain confidence in making choices at the nursery.
All participants will receive a rooted elderberry cutting to take home and plant.
