Flush Setting Faceted Stones
Flush setting — also widely referred to as a gypsy setting — is a stone-setting technique in which a gemstone is seated within a tapered hole drilled or burred directly into solid metal, so that the table facet of the stone sits level with the surrounding metal surface. The gem is secured not by prongs, but by the burnishing of the metal rim over the girdle, creating a smooth, uninterrupted plane across the face of the piece.
This style of setting is an excellent first step into the world of fine jewelry and working with faceted stones. It is a fairly simple process and uses minimal tools, and unlike most fine jewelry... no torches or fire involved! Just a little bit of pressure and patience, and you too can create a beautiful piece of jewelry!
Each participant will get a chance to practice and then to create their own sterling silver pendant set with a few faceted stones.
If you have any type of magnifying device, such as magnifying glasses or a hands-free magnifier, it is recommended to bring along. I will bring as many as I can, but I'm not certain i'll have enough for everyone at once.
