Reviving Ballads: Crankies and Songs with Annick Odom and Eddie Spaghetti Art
There will be a series of 5 classes where Annick will introduce local unaccompanied ballads. She will share local history while teaching us the songs that hold the history. Eddie Spaghetti Art will also be involved by introducing crankie making.
What's a crankie you ask? They are an old storytelling art form. Start with a long illustrated scroll that is wound onto two spools. The spools are loaded into a box which has a viewing window. The scroll is then hand-cranked while the story is told, a song is sung or a tune is played.

For the first gathering we will learn a couple of songs and make our own mini matchbox crankie. As the classes progress our goal is to create a large community crankie that will be performed at the Morgantown Crankie Fest April 17 and 18 at the Monongalia Art Center.
